Mages are what some might call sorcerors, witches, wizards, and such. They are humans who were born magically inclined and through incantations obtain life anywhere from 150 to 300 years. They work their magic through spells and incantations as well as potions and rituals. Many have a specialty or inclination with their magic and study especially hard in that field.

They often look exactly like humans however every now and then one may have a strange hair color or eye color. Mages are spread out pretty evenly through the realm of Ildhineth however many study at monasteries or academies to train their abilities as adolescents and then go on their way.

There is an archmage that is considered the strongest mage and is responsible for the mages of the land. This is not an inherited position but is fought for, challenged for. When one thinks they can obtain the position they may challenge the current archmage and if they wing take over as the archmage. But this is not a dictatorship or even like a ruling leader, more like an enforcer and figurehead to speak to the other races.

When creating a character as a mage they have the ability of spellcasting as well as an ability of your choice. Dragons or draki can have a spellcasting ability and dragons can be called 'dragonmages' or 'dragonwitches' however they are not exactly just a mage. And this doesn't necessarily make them more powerful just because they have a nickname that includes the words witch or mage.
